Established in 1880, South Dakota School for the Deaf provides evaluations in academic, social and emotional, behavioral, cognitive, transition, audiology, and speech and language areas for children with hearing impairments. Its students receive an initial assessment that includes social summary, educational, psychological and developmental, audiological and medical record reviews. The school s special education team includes program specialists, audiologists, speech language pathologists, nurses and educational psychologists. It also provides placement and consultation services for students with special needs. The school operates a student council, as well as organizes a range of after-school and extracurricular activities. It is accredited by the North Central Accreditation.
