Payroll works under the Finance Department, which works under the government of Lawrence, Kans. It employs more than 1,200 full- and part-time employees. The Finance Department is responsible for accounting, customer billing and collections, payment processing, cash management, payroll, debt issuance, budget preparation, financial reporting, and financial forecast and analysis. Its financial management division is responsible for the cash management and accounting functions for funds received and expended by the city. The department also maintains a utility billing division of finance that offers water billing, sewer, stormwater and trash services. The Finance Department also provides various online payment, transfer and billing services.
