In 2000 Intercounty Electric, Mitchell and Tri-County Electric, Plankinton consolidated to form Central Electric Cooperative. The cooperative has more than 40 employees and provides electrical service to over 4,500 consumer members. The company has access to more than 3,700-miles of overhead power lines, an excess of 590-miles of underground lines and over 18 electric substations. Some of the largest loads that the cooperative serves include the Plankinton School, National Foods, Dakota Pork, and the Hutterite Colonies. Its products inventory includes General Electric, LG and Amana appliances, heating, ventilation and air conditioning products, Marathon water heaters, and Electraflame fireplaces.
