The S.C. Second Injury Fund – which functions within the state’s Worker’s Compensation System – was created to protect employers from higher insurance costs that can occur when an injury combines with a prior disability. The office also helps to ensure that injured employees receive workers’ compensation benefits when employers fail to comply with coverage provisions of the law.
