The Broad Creek Public Service District, earlier known as the Palmetto Dunes Public Service District, provides safe supply of water and sewage treatment services. Founded in 1973, the district operates in-vessel composting systems that convert waste material into soil conditioner. It collects grease, oil, congealed foods, coffee grounds and nonbiodegradable items, such as paper towels, baby diapers, plastics and cigarette filters. The district purchases water from the Beaufort - Jasper Water & Sewer Authority. The Broad Creek Public Service District is located in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
