From the City of Mauldin:
The Ray Hopkins Senior Center offers a variety of activities for those 55 and older. There are no membership fees; however occasionally there is a nominal fee requested for certain activities. Aerobic classes with a certified instructor are offered three times a week. The exercise room containing bikes and treadmills are available for use Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Painting classes and quilting classes are offered throughout the year. The Book Club meets monthly. Free in-house movies are offered twice a month.
Activities offered throughout the month are bridge, canasta, pinochle, euchre, dominos and poker. Other games played are Skip-Bo and Sequence. Woodcarving is offered on Wednesday mornings. Free Blood Pressure Screenings are offered on the second Wednesday of each month. There are monthly Ladies Teas starting in September, and Birthday Parties every month. Seniors participate in monthly Covered Dish Dinner/Bingo and Dirty Bingo. Bunko is played twice a month. Every month a special guest speaker is invited to address a specific topic. GSSC (Golden Strip Senior Citizens) meet twice a month for lunch and bingo.
Volunteers travel to Greenville Memorial Hospital monthly to offer their services and on the second Friday of each month seniors meet to stuff teddy bears for the Children’s Hospital.
There are occasional day trips and 2 to 3 day trips offered. Seniors attend special events at local theaters throughout the year. There are special luncheons/parties held throughout the year.
