The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, also known as NOAA, manages coastal and marine resources to meet the economic, social and environmental needs of United States. Founded in 1970, it predicts changes in earth s environment and conserves costal resources. The organization protects living marine resources through scientific research, fisheries management, enforcement and habitat conservation. It manages, conserves and protects fish, whales, dolphins, sea turtles and other living creatures in the ocean. The organization operates the NOAA Coastal Services Center, which offers services to the federal and nonprofit organizations. Established in 1994, the center also addresses various coastal issues. The NOAA Coastal Services Center is a part of the Department of Commerce.
