Mount Pleasant Police Department provides public safety services and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. It serves more than 62,000 residents in Mount Pleasant, S.C., and employs over 140 sworn officers and nearly 40 civilians. The department has divided the town of Mount Pleasant, which covers and area of 73 square miles, into seven patrol neighborhoods each of which is assigned to a specific officer and is responsible for security maintenance and problem resolution. Its traffic bureau has a specialized unit that handles traffic accident investigations and provides specialized investigative expertise in serious accident reconstruction and police regulation. It also provides public safety information forums that educate citizens on traffic safety issues. Mount Pleasant Police Department s victim services unit provides support and encouragement to crime victims and offers crime victim compensation, referrals, crisis counseling, court orientation, domestic violence tracking and safety planning services.
