Established in 1908, the Lancaster Fire Department offers a range of fire prevention, environmental protection and emergency medical services for residents and visitors. It conducts fire safety inspections in residential, commercial and industrial facilities. The department also has a training division that conducts classes in physical training, hazardous materials response, and high-angle, trench and water rescue. The Lancaster Fire Department is comprised of more than 25 career and over 15 volunteer personnel, as well as has fire and life safety educators. It serves in an area of nearly 5 square miles and approximately 13,000 individuals. The department houses a fleet of aerial platforms, rescue and brush trucks and specialized response trailers. The Lancaster Fire Department responds to more than 1,300 calls for service annually. It works under the government of Lancaster, S.C.
