Allen University
Allen University was founded in 1870 by the African Methodist Episcopal Church to educate African-Americans. It is a Christian liberal arts institution of higher education located in Columbia, S.C. The university has various academic departments, including biology, business administration, chemistry, English, mathematics, religion and social science. It also offers several sports programs in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, tennis and track and field. The university s library offers a variety of fiction and nonfiction books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, archives, journals and newspapers. It provides several clubs, such as biology, Spanish, English, social studies, French, music, drama, speech and debate clubs. Allen University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
