Gene Dickerson, MD, is the physician executive at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, where he previously served as physician executive and vice president of medical affairs for 12 years. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, completed his surgical residency at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and entered private practice in Sumter in 1982, performing general and vascular surgery for 22 years. He has continued a reduced surgical practice, concentrating on thyroid and parathyroid procedures. He has served as president of the county’s Medical Society, was chief of staff at Tuomey and served for eight years on the Tuomey board of directors. He also served as the chairman of the Senior Medical Leaders Committee and had a seat on the boards of the South Carolina Hospital Association, Palmetto Healthcare Liability Insurance Program, PHT Services and Palmetto Hospital Trust. Dickerson is a member of the Prisma Health Quality and Patient Safety Committee.
