Effie Thompson, PA-C is a new provider excited to join the MUSC Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine team in Chester, SC. Growing up an athlete, Effie is a native of Lancaster, SC, and was always interested in practicing orthopedics. She has returned as a physician assistant and is ready to provide high-quality, individualized medical care to the patients in Chester and surrounding communities. She received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of South Carolina, where she earned honors and graduated with leadership distinction in community service. With experience as a pediatric therapy aid and as a nurse tech in the emergency department, Effie was admitted to Wake Forest School of Medicine. There she completed the Emerging Leaders Program, earning a Masters in Business Management with honors prior to starting the physician assistant program. During PA school, Effie earned a certificate in global health, served as her graduating class's co-president, and was awarded her class's outstanding student member award. She completed a clinical elective in orthopedic surgery during her training to further her skills in orthopedic and sports medicine topics. Effie takes pride in being in tune with her patients by employing active listening and compassionate care. She prides herself on practicing medicine that is centered around the patient, always aiming to improve the quality of lives of her patients in her home state of South Carolina.
