The Disabilities Board of Charleston County is a part of the statewide network of county disabilities boards that are contracted by the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs. It provides several services and support to people with mental retardation, autism, head injuries, spinal cord injuries and other related disabilities. The board provides in-home family and individual support services to assist people with disabilities and to live independently. It develops, provides, coordinates, improves and operates various community-based programs for people with disabilities who require assistance for independent living. In addition, the board offers early intervention, employment, and respite and intermediate care services. It is located in Charleston, S.C.
