History
The Chamber's first meeting was held with 13 members present at what was then called Swallow's Tavern (or City Tavern) located at 46 Broad Street. It was incorporated in 1784 as the Charleston Chamber of Commerce. Founder and first president Alexander Gillon, a merchant and seaman, presided for two years.
