Frank Outlaw founded BI-LO in the Upstate of South Carolina in 1961 and expanded the number of stores to 27 in just a period of seven years. It operates a chain of more than 230 supermarkets throughout the United States, including South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. Its stores include bakery, deli, meat and pharmacy departments. In addition, some of the stores offer a range of in-store services, including DVDXpress kiosks for movie rentals, Western Union money transfers, money orders and convenience payment services. The company offers a variety of brands, such as Southern Homes, Gold Star Meat, Walter s and Top Care. Some of the stores also provide digital photo processing services, ready-to-eat meals, Angus beef and a variety of organic food items. BI-LO has more than 20,000 employees and supports over 400 charities for children, education and underprivileged people through BI-LO Charity Classic golf tournaments. The company maintains a presence in Anderson, S.C.
