The Aiken Housing Authority has been operational for more than 60 years and offers a variety of housing programs to low- and moderate-income families and individuals. Its Family Self-Sufficiency program is a plan to facilitate and place families seeking independence from welfare assistance to become self-sufficient. The program includes transportation, child care, job training, counseling, placement, money management, and substance and alcohol abuse treatment and counseling. It also runs housing choice voucher and tenant-based rental assistance programs. The authority s out-of-school program helps youths between the ages of 16 and 21 to acquire employment and provides individual and group counseling, career planning assistance and occupational skills training.
