The Smithfield Sportsmen Club is located right off Cedar Swamp Rd. in Smithfield, RI. Founded in 1917 by 4 men interested in promoting game conservation favorable sportsmen legislation, this club was initially called the Georgiaville Foxhunters Club. By 1938, the 65 members of the club decided they needed more room, and so purchased 1 acre of land on which they built the large, pristine clubhouse that sits there today. The clubhouse offers kitchen facilities, an indoor 50 foot range for 22 rimfire rifles and pistols, an outdoor covered rifle and pistol range, an archery range, and a stocked trout fishing pond. The few programs open to the public include Junior Rifle, the Annual Field Day, and the RI DEM Hunter Safety Program. In order to become a member, a gentleman must be nominated by a standing member and placed on a waiting list.
