The Bristol Knights of Columbus, chartered in November 1898, is one of the oldest councils in the country. The Knights, started in nearby New Haven, was formed to provide financial help, personal aid and assistance, and social and intellectual fellowship to its members and their families. Its four guiding principles are charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism; and through more than 14,000 local units, the Knights are committed to making the community a better place. Under the leadership of Grand Knight Warren R. Rensehausen, the organization sponsors blood drive, participates in local church activities, runs charity projects each year and awards a number of college scholarships and catholic school grants. The Bristol Knights are a favorite at the area's 4th of July parade.
