Disability Determination Services, also known as DDS, is an agency that is responsible for collecting the medical evidences of records. It is a unit of the Office of Rehabilitation Services, which is operated by the Department of Human Services. The agency determines the medical eligibilities of children and adults in Rhode Island. Disability Determination Services conducts the Supplementary Security Income (SSI) program, which serves people with physical and mental impairments. It also administers the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program, which includes disability benefits plans for individuals. The agency operates a field office that is responsible for verifying nonmedical eligibility requirements. The Department of Human Services is governed by the State of Rhode Island.
