Clouds Hill is a Victorian treasure, both in terms of the house (built in "high-Victorian" style) and the amazing collections within it. It was built in 1872 by William Smith Slater for his daughter Elizabeth on the occasion of her marriage and has remained in the family ever since.
Today, descendant Anne Holst lives at the house, along with caretakers Wayne and Christine Cabral. Wayne is the museum's director — an enthusiastic champion of the place who, with Anne and Christine, has worked for 10 years to make this a must-see destination for lovers of Victoriana the world over.
They plan to open the Carriage House behind the main house in 2011, in which will be the many historic carriages collected by the family over the years.
