The Wistar Institute is an independent nonprofit biomedical research institute that offers a range of educational programs. Founded in 1892, the institute provides a variety of programs and services in the areas of immunology and oncology. It develops vaccines for various diseases, such as rabies and rubella. The institute identifies genes associated with breast, lung and prostate cancer. It develops monoclonal antibodies and other research technologies and tools. The institute maintains more than 30 laboratories. The Wistar Institute provides various training programs for researchers, predoctoral students, postdoctoral fellows and visiting scientists. It has working relationships with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and several other medical research organizations. The Wistar Institute manages a staff of scientists and support personnel.
