Snyder Associated Companies, formed in 1976 in Kittanning, Pa., was founded when Elmer A. Snyder and Charles H. Snyder Sr. formed a small construction company in June 1941. They branched out into the coal mining business in 1945, purchased Glacial Sand & Gravel in 1948 and Highway Equipment and Supply in Orlando, Fla., in 1951. The brothers opened the Quality Inn Royle Motel in 1951 in West Kittanning, Pa. Allegheny Mineral Corporation was created in 1953 to quarry limestone and has plant locations in Slippery Rock and Harrisville, Pa. The Snyders purchased the Bauer Block Company in 1974, with acquisitions of Logan Candy Company in 1984 and Armstrong Cement & Supply in 1988. They also entered the natural gas and oil exploration and production sector in several counties in Pennsylvania.
