The Distance Learning Center (DLC) is a non-profit corporation based in Philadelphia, PA, dedicated to increasing the representation of underrepresented minorities in science, technology, engineering, math, and medicine (STEMM). Through their STEMMPREP Project, students gain exposure to STEMM fields by working in labs starting as early as seventh grade, with the opportunity to continue through college based on performance.
The DLC has achieved remarkable success rates, with 100% of their trainees attending college, 100% graduating from college, and over 90% completing the STEMMPREP Project. Additionally, more than 80% of their college seniors go on to pursue graduate or medical school. The DLC also organizes the Minority Trainee Research Forum (MTRF), a national abstract competition for underrepresented minority trainees, where awardees receive full travel fellowships to present their research.
