Founded in 1908 and located in Philadelphia, Settlement Music School serves more than 15,000 students. It offers various programs in music and movement therapy to students with physical and other disabilities. The school provides instructions in orchestra and musical instruments, such as piano, guitar and violin. In addition, it provides instructions in mandolin cornet and vocal lessons. The school has trained and experienced professionals, such as Johann Grolle, a violinist. It provides opportunities for students to participate in various events and special occasions. The school offers musical workshops and band and chorus activities. Its string quartets, brass groups, jazz groups and individual artist offer musical programs for corporations, colleges, and local businesses. It offers financial assistance, and scholarships and therapeutic arts program. The school is a member of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts and Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. In addition, it is approved as a nondegree granting institution by the National Association of Schools of Music.
