History
Quantum Theatre was founded in Pittsburgh in 1990 by Karla Boos. She wanted to initiate in Pittsburgh a company that incorporated the influences of world culture and the dynamic trends sweeping through the international theatre scene. Quantum Theatre has provided a nurturing home for Boos' evolution as an artist and for the hundreds of collaborators that have created Quantum's work. These artists draw upon the resources of image, world languages, mixed media, and the power of non-traditional performance sites. Uniquely for the region, Quantum's productions are staged environmentally in places that aren't theatres. They have become a reflection of Pittsburgh itself, expressing the varying character of the city in places as different from each other as the grandest museum and the least likely abandoned industrial site.
Specialties
Quantum Theatre is a kind of laboratory, an incubator for the amazing. Quantum has told its invented stories in real places for twenty years, now. And Pittsburgh has participated actively, offering up its nooks, crannies, geography and architecture. Productions are staged environmentally in places that aren't theatres. Sometimes there's singing. Often a sunset. Always a reaction. To find out where our current production is happening visit: www.quantumtheatre.com
