The Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority, also known as PWSA, provides water and wastewater services to nearly 250,000 consumers throughout the city of Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. The company has helped to set standards for delivering quality to customers, employees and associates and strives to achieve excellence in financial management, internal effectiveness and regulatory and environmental issues. PWSA's vision is to provide water and wastewater services that meet or exceed regulations and customer expectations at a low cost. The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority was created in 1984, when its primary function was to oversee a $200 million-capital improvement program designed to refurbish the infrastructure of the entire water system, including the water treatment plant and distribution system. This project was to ensure that the water system met the rapidly expanding water quality requirements of the federal and state Safe Drinking Water Acts. The Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority is a privately owned company that employs nearly 250 people.
