Brian Kelly, MD
Dr. Kelly grew up locally in Monroeville, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Gateway High School, where he played soccer, basketball, and baseball. He moved away to Indiana for college and medical school, but he was excited to return to Pittsburgh for his residency in orthopaedic surgery, where he was very active in medical student education and served as chief resident. Dr. Kelly further developed his skills in sports medicine and shoulder surgery with a fellowship at the Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center and Tulane University, where he had the opportunity to train under the mentorship of several internationally renowned surgeons and orthopaedic society presidents and learn cutting edge techniques for the treatment of shoulder, elbow, and knee problems. Throughout his career, Dr. Kelly has been published in several prominent orthopaedic journals, won a resident research award, and presented at regional and national meetings. He is a member of several orthopaedic specialty societies to make sure that he stays up to date on the latest surgical techniques and technologies. He is also very active in resident education and is passionate about training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. Dr. Kelly has taken care of several sports teams and athletes at all levels of competition from high school through professional. Prior to joining Greater Pittsburgh Orthopaedic Associates, he served as part of the faculty of the Allegheny Health Network Orthopaedic Institute, where he was on the medical staff for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is in the process of becoming certified as part of the USA Olympic Team medical staff and looks forward to the exciting opportunities ahead. He is proud to be joining a group of talented surgeons with a great reputation for providing the most skilled and compassionate care for their patients. He and his wife enjoy rooting for all of the Pittsburgh sports teams, trying new restaurants, exploring the many museums Pittsburgh has to offer, traveling, and skiing. Dr. Kelly has started getting into golf recently, but he remains very much a beginner whose friends are probably embarrassed to be seen with him. He lives in the East End with his beautiful wife, Erica, and their daughter, Brooke.
