Kings began in North Versailles, Pa., in 1967 as Kings Country Shoppes. This name was later changed to Kings Family Restaurants to reflect that the establishment was a restaurant. The chain is known for its ice cream, which is available in different flavors. It is also famous for meatloaf and mashed potatoes. The restaurant offers more than 10 varieties of Hartley s Choice Pies and over 20 choices of Hartley s Choice Ice Cream. Kings Family's menu features a variety of starters, soups, salads, entrees, sandwiches, burgers and desserts. The restaurant s dessert menu includes the Banana Wheel Delight, Strawberry Shortcake Delight, Orange Creamsicle, Frownie Sundae, fudge ice cream cake, Style Cheesecake and the Royal Treatment. Kings Family Restaurants offers membership cards and reward points. It also supports various social organizations, including the Leukemia Society of Western Pennsylvania, the Children s Hospital of Pittsburgh and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Western Pennsylvania. In addition, the restaurant sponsors the Kings Junior Golf Tournament Series in conjunction with the Tri-State Professional Golfing Association.
