Futurescapes is a non-profit organization based in Athens, PA, dedicated to the long-term recovery and revitalization of the community. Since its establishment in 2012, Futurescapes has been actively involved in coordinating partnerships, developing funding strategies, and implementing projects that promote safer, smarter, and stronger communities in the wake of the 2011 flooding. With a focus on the entire Valley community, Futurescapes aims to rebuild and recover by connecting ideas, resources, and people.
As part of their efforts, Futurescapes has successfully obtained grants and led initiatives such as the Diahoga Trail Project, which involved paving a trail along the Susquehanna River, and the rebuilding of Valley Playland, a new playground set to be installed in May 2021. In addition, Futurescapes played a key role in securing the River Town designation for Athens and Sayre boroughs, fostering collaboration with local partners to enhance the river town experience and obtain support for projects along the river. By championing community growth and safety, Futurescapes invites individuals to join their cause and make a positive impact on the Valley.
