Department of Emergency Services is one of the departments of Allegheny County in Pennsylvania. It provides training and investigative services, emergency management response systems for disasters, catastrophes and serves various municipal needs. It has various divisions, such as 9-1-1, communications, emergency management, emergency medical services, fire and police departments. It operates a 9-1-1 emergency response telecommunications network, emergency response teams, fire investigation units and a fire training academy. The division of emergency medical services assists more than 60 licensed emergency service agencies and supports response and rescue companies, including businesses, industrial organizations and educational entities. It helps in providing appropriate medical resources during emergency situations and education in disaster response to the residents of Allegheny County. Department of Emergency Services provides communications backup solutions to public safety agencies, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. It offers the RACES program that is a method of contacting the weather service and Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency during communications failures.
