CONSOL Energy, through its subsidiaries, is a producer of bituminous coal in the United States, with nearly 20 bituminous coal mining complexes in several states. The company s roots date back to 1860 when Consolidation Coal Company was formed from the merger of several small coal mining firms in western Maryland. It is a majority shareholder in one of the largest U.S. producers of coalbed methane, CNX Gas Corporation. CONSOL Energy has annual revenues of $2.8 billion. Through expansion and acquisitions, CONSOL Energy has evolved from a single-fuel mining company into a multi-energy producer of coal, gas and electricity. The company produces both high-Btu coal and gas, which fuels approximately two-thirds of all U.S. power generation from reserves located mainly east of the Mississippi River. CONSOL Energy is a major fuel supplier to the electric power industry in the northeast quadrant of the United States. J. Brett Harvey has been the chief executive officer of Consol Energy for more than eight years. He has been with the raw materials company for over eight years. Harvey earned a BSME degree from the University of Utah. CONSOL Energy is based in Pittsburgh.
