Center for Young Musicians (CYM) opened its doors in Wexford in 1994 and expanded to the Sewickley site in 2006. The school provides music appreciation and instruction with the goal of developing "proficient instrumentalists who are lifelong supporters of music." Its programs include Early Childhood Music (ECM), Music Literacy and Long-Term Curriculum in violin, cello, piano and guitar.
CYM musicians—some as young as 5 years old—have performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and at the White House. The facility in Wexford, at 120 Lake Drive, is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 8pm and Saturdays from 9am to 4pm, year-round. The Sewickley facility is open by appointment only.
