The Carbon County District Court is authorized to hear a variety of civil cases, such as claims for money up to $8,000 and claims under the Landlord and Tenant Act. It also handles several criminal cases and summary offenses, including motor vehicle violations, driving under the influence accidents and third-degree misdemeanors. In addition, the court presides over arraignments and fixes bail, as well as issues arrest and search warrants. The Carbon County District Court also issues emergency protection from abuse orders on nights, weekends and holidays when the Court of Common Pleas is closed. It maintains a courthouse facility in Jim Thorpe, Pa.
