History
We're new! We opened our karate classes in 2021, although our Aikido dojo has been around for well over a decade. Our head karate instructor, Jeff Marcus, received his first black belt in the 1980's in Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan (Kobayashi) and also holds black belts in Shorin-Ryu Shidokan (Kobayashi), Matsubayashi-Ryu, Shotokan, and Kokikai Aikido. He also spent multiple years each training in Issin-Ryu karate, jujitsu, kung fu, tai chi, tae kwon do, and krav maga. The wide variety of styles is due to a combination of living in various geographies plus a deep desire to study the comparative differences among the arts.
Specialties
We study the Shorin-ryu style from Okinawa (birthplace of karate) including practical self-defense applications. Our evening classes are adult-oriented, allowing for more relaxed individualized training. We provide the intensity level each student desires, without pressuring anyone past their comfort zone. We also hold Aikido classes with real-life self-defense applications.
