Established in 1946, Allegheny County Sanity Authority provides wastewater treatment services to 83 communities, including the City of Pittsburgh. Its treatment plant is one of the largest wastewater treatment facilities in the Ohio River Valley, processing up to 250 million gallons of wastewater daily. Allegheny County Sanity Authority has designed and constructed conveyance, storage, and treatment facilities that eliminate the sanitary sewer overflows of the region. The agency serves nearly 320,000 residential, commercial and industrial accounts representing a service population of 900,000. Through its Scholastic Outreach Program and annual initiatives, such as Open House and the Summer Science Program, it creates awareness on issues, pertaining to wastewater treatment and sustainability.
