Serving children with learning disabilities, the Academy in Manayunk follows the rigorous curriculum established by The Lab School of Washington. In addition to standard academics, the academy incorporates visual and performing arts for its students. The school is affiliated with many area universities and implements research-to-practice approaches in educating those with learning disabilities. The Lower School, for grades 1-5, offers a mostly 1:6 teacher-to-student environment for reading, writing and math. Divided into two age groups and separated into smaller teams, students learn graphic arts, music, dance, sciences, U.S. geography, writers workshop and health/physical education in addition to the core curriculum.
