AC-ACLD, located in Pittsburgh, is an association for children and adults with learning disabilities that was established in 1966. It is a nonprofit, private and educational organization that provides various programs for children and adults suffering from learning disabilities and related neurobiological disorders. It promotes self-sufficiency and financial independence and serves more than 400 children and adults annually. The organization operates various learning centers that provide small group and individualized educational instructions to children based on individual strengths and needs. It also emphasizes on basic reading and math skills, and offers socialization activities, and personalized, support and referral services. It is licensed by the Pennsylvania s state board of private academic schools. Additionally, the diagnostic clinic at the center conducts academic, prevocational and literacy evaluations for adolescents and adults to determine their academic levels and assist in skills development. AC-ACLD operates the Katharine Dean Tillotson School and organizes workshops and training sessions.
