History
Early on in my career, I worked at retail garden centers and for landscape maintenance and design/build firms, learning about the never-ending choices of plant material, healthy nursery practices, and how to listen closely to people's needs and desires. After moving to Portland in 2000, I worked as an estate gardener, managing the restoration and enhancement of the gardens surrounding a historic home. For the next 10 years, I pursued a graduate degree in environmental science - focusing on noxious weed detection & treatment - while also working as a research assistant at Portland State University. Ultimately, the allure, complexity, and creativity involved in landscape design called to me once again. So, I've returned to my roots yet again: a deep appreciation for the diversity of plant material; a keen understanding of how the natural world around us affects our lives; and admiration for the unique blend of function and beauty that a well-designed landscape can embody.
