Public Health is one of the departments of the Center for Human Development, and is located in La Grande, Ore. It provides health care services and special programs for children, the youth and adults. The department operates Adolescent Health Services and Clinic, a health center located in La Grande High School and operated by skilled health professionals. It provides treatment to students suffering from chronicle illnesses, and mental health and behavioral disorders through psychiatric intervention, assessment and evaluations, and individual and group counseling. Additionally, it provides health education in classrooms and encourages participation in sports and recreational activities. It also emphasizes teen pregnancy issues and offers immunization schedules. Public Health department additionally provides special programs for various diseases, such as breast cancer and diabetes, and basic support services and nutritional counseling to women and children. The department also operates a special program for HIV and AIDS testing, case management and prevention, and education to the general community and school students.
