Silver Dragon owner Chris Somerville is a self defense/personal security expert who focuses on combining traditional self defense with personalized instruction to give students complete physical, mental and emotional fitness. He teaches his students to be confident and prepared to handle any self defense situations that they may encounter. Sensei Chris began studying martial arts as a child and is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Chinese kempo karate. He is constantly updating his martial arts & fitness training to help you be able to reach your personal goals. In addition to being a skilled martial artist Chris is ACE certified with over 15 years of fitness coaching experience. He excels at coaching and motivating children and adults through his enthusiasm for the martial art and fitness and by personally investing time to find out what motivates each student. Sensei Chris sees the dojo as a family-oriented location where everyone is accepted and celebrated for their differences.

Students at Silver Dragon Martial Arts & Fitness learn more than just punches, kicks and self defense when they come in. They get personalized attention focusing on the goals that THEY want to achieve, whether that is to earn a Black Belt in Chinese Kempo Karate; to cross-train for another sport; or just to start a fun fitness regimen. Many martial arts schools focus on instilling strict rules and regulations (many of which are based on outdated principles and antiquated thinking) and forcing students to conform without much thought to how that structure works in today's interconnected society. In life, we expect individuals to stand up for themselves and use independent thinking to resolve conflict and issues. In the dojo, we also learn to stand up and protect ourselves from physical attacks and other abuses. Because one-size-does-NOT-fit-all, our programs are personalized for each student to help them achieve their health and fitness goals and to empower them to take charge of their lives, as well as be able to handle any self defense situation they may encounter. Our classes focus on flexibility, balance, and cardiovascular improvement, as well as covering mental aspects of the martial arts with our six Core Principles. Classes are affordable and we have many class options to choose from.
