Sonshine Christian School in Florence, OR has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s when Adventist logging operators began operations in the Mapleton area. The school started in a former Evangelical Church in Glenada in 1949 and later moved to a building on Kingwood Street in Florence in 1956. In 1985, the current location on Highway 101 was purchased, and a new church complex was constructed to meet the needs of the congregation and provide a place for worship and education.
With a focus on Christian education, Sonshine Christian School offered classes for both their own and community children until 1996. The school thrived with around 20 students, but eventually closed due to a lack of school-aged children in the congregation. Today, Sonshine Christian School continues to serve the community by providing a place of worship and various activities for its members.
