Powder River Correctional Facility, located in Baker City, Ore., and established in 1989, is a 286-bed minimum-security prison facility. It is a division of the Department of Corrections of the state of Oregon. The division strives to protect the public by habilitating offenders through quality management, special transitional programs and positive human relationships to help them to plan for successful transition to their communities. The facility provides selected minimum-security inmates opportunities to participate in community-based work projects and residential alcohol and drug treatment programs. Additionally, the inmates participate in other projects, such as assistance in making bricks and supporting the operation and maintenance of correctional institutions in areas, such as food service, physical plant maintenance and janitorial services.
