Established in 1911, the Oregon Department of Forestry protects and promotes forests. It offers a range of detection services for insects, pests and other forest tree diseases. The department manages forests that are spread over an area of more than 780,000 acres. The Oregon Department of Forestry administers the Protection from Fire program. It provides forest resource planning, research and analysis services. The department offers technical and educational support to various forest landowners. The Oregon Department of Forestry administers the Urban and Community Forestry program, which provides tree planting, care and management services. It is a part of the state government of Oregon, which also maintains agriculture, corrections, employment, judicial, revenue and transportation departments.
