GEAR Con is Portland's homegrown celebration of steampunk arts and culture, bringing together techno-anachronists, alternate-historians, and the retrofuture-curious for a day of mad art, weird science, and adversarial tea-time. Attendees can enjoy a variety of activities including art science projects, discussions, workshops, games, and more, as well as beloved GEAR Con events like the Scrapheap Challenge and tea dueling.
Featuring a demo by Tesla Coil Works, where visitors can witness man-made lightning and thunder, and a performance by Cece Otto, a classically trained singer and historian, GEAR Con offers a unique blend of entertainment and education. Costumes are optional but appreciated, and steampunk creatives are encouraged to share their endeavors by consigning a selection of their offerings for the day.
