The mission of the Foundation is to help our library attain a level of excellence in facilities and services for the people of Jackson County. The Foundation has existed since 1982 and is managed by an eight-member volunteer Board of Directors. We employ one full-time Executive Director and one temporary part-time support staff. The Foundation works closely with Jackson County and LSSI, the outsourcing organization which manages day-to-day library operations, to benefit all communities in the county through 15 branch libraries. The fiscal year 2008 was a transitional year for the Foundation. We refocused our priorities and activities from administrative to fund development, said good-bye to our executive director of three years, hired a new executive director late in the year, and watched as our endowment, like so many others, suffered the effects of the current economic crisis. We celebrated large donations for important reading programs, worked with Friends of the Library groups on significant smaller projects, and got to know our new partners from LSSI. It is our intent to position the Foundation as a significant contributor to the well-being, growth, and continued operations of all local libraries in Jackson County. Our Board of Directors is currently developing plans for increased public awareness, a new membership program, and fundraising events that promise to be illuminating, informative, and fun. Thank you all for your support and encouragement. Your partnership with the Jackson County Library Foundation- as contributors, mentors, volunteers, and friends - is deeply appreciated.
