History
Independence Gardens is a locally-owned and operated small business; we are licensed, bonded, and insured (CCB#186008). We are committed to supporting a strong food system and economy by purchasing sustainable products from local vendors. Independence Gardens has a construction contractor's license. Owners Karen Wolfgang and Isabel LaCourse are native Portlanders, and we are very involved in our community. Our business is just one of the many ways we stay connected to our neighbors, family, and friends.
Specialties
Our business helps first time gardeners get a jump-start on growing their own food and helps established gardeners grow more food, more easily. We build edible garden infrastructure (raised garden beds, chicken coops, trellises, terraces, etc.). We teach people about organic gardening (in garden classes, on-site consultations, etc.). We help clean up existing garden spaces (seasonally, and by removing invasive species) and create new ones. We also help with permaculture garden planning: we design gardens that work for the people who tend them.
