Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory is a private, nonprofit corporation that provides research and development assistance to education, government, community agencies, business and labor agencies. Located in Portland, Ore., it conducts several programs and projects providing services in the areas of classroom teaching and learning; school and district improvement; school, family and community; and research, evaluation, and assessment. Additionally, the corporation conducts projects that include after school programs, balancing life and work and the school improvement research series. It offers professional development services for K-12 instructional staff, such as developing mathematics understanding in English language learners, integrating technology in K-12 education, program and mathematics problem-solving model. Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory is part of a national network of 10 educational laboratories funded by the Department of Education and Institute of Education Sciences to serve the Northwest region of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
