History
Dion Vineyard was started in 1973 with a 5 acre purchase by Ron & Joanne Johnson. With help from Ron's Dad Al (who had grown wine grapes in the Yakima valley) their young toddler, Kevin and the family golden retriever, they planted their first Pinot Noir vines and launched into their own Oregon wine adventure. Along the way they learned of the joys of year round vine care and the fun of cool weather grape growing. DaughterAlong the way, the successful enterprise has expanded to 60 acres -- and the family expanded with a daughter Laura. The family tradition continues to this day with son Kevin taking up the reins as winemaker for the family label. A possible fourth generation has been seen in the vineyard recently... We'll see how soon she gets the family wine bug!
Specialties
For over 40 years, three generations of our family have been stewards to the land and terroir that is Dion Vineyard. We provide premium wine grapes to a wide variety of wineries throughout Oregon. We also produce small quantities of wine for our own label. In our grapes and our wine we strive to achieve a sense of terroir -- a sense of the people and the place that are home to these vines. Located in the Northern Willamette Valley, Dion Vineyard is 60 acres of southerly slopes. Our vines, some over 30 years old, are rooted in Laurelwood soils at elevations from 300 to 500 feet. We principally grow Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay.
