The Oregon Department of Corrections is responsible for the development of criminal justice policies. The department is a part of the government of the state of Oregon. Established in 1987, it manages and administers adult correctional institutions. The department also provides interstate compact administration and jail inspection solutions. The Oregon Department of Corrections offers data services and information about felons. In addition, its public services division comprises research, investigations, rules, hearings, projects and public affairs sections. The department operates a planning and budget unit that oversees the implementation of new prison construction activities. The Oregon Department of Corrections additionally manages a general services division that performs canteen food purchasing, radio and warehouse operations.
