History
I began working with children and families in the private school setting in the late 1970's. In this work I had the great privilege of working with hundreds of children and families. My professional work included the role of teaching, identifying both learning and social/emotional differences, group and individual counseling, and support to colleagues and parents in helping understand the needs of each individual child. As a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Oregon and Art Therapist, I made the decision to use my skills and experience in a private practice setting, where I am better able to focus my work on one family at a time. I take my responsibilities as a therapist to heart, and the care I provide each child quite seriously. Child Matters. LLC. was established in 2014.
Specialties
As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Master's Level Art Therapist (AT) I have worked with children and families in the Portland Area for over 35 years, primarily in private schools. In my private practice, Child Matters, LLC., I provide individualized counseling for children and families seeking professional counseling services. Children between the ages of four through fourteen respond well to the different therapeutic approaches I utilize in my practice. These include cognitive behavioral therapy combined with art therapy, play therapy, and talk therapy. I also utilize the practice of mindfulness, helping children develop a connection between their mind, emotions, and physical body. This work is integrated through the use of yoga practice and regulated breathing. I work closely with parents in helping address the issues presenting with the child, and/or within the family system. These may include anxiety, depression, ADHD, social/emotional, school related issues, attachment disorders, divorce, grief and loss.
